Many critics considered it to be one of the best films set in the MCU and noted its cultural significance, with organizations including the National Board of Review and American Film Institute naming it one of the Top 10 Films of 2018.
As Good As It Gets
As Good as It Gets is a 1997 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by James L. Brooks. The movie stars Jack Nicholson as a misanthropic and obsessive-compulsive novelist, Helen Hunt as a single mother with a chronically ill son, and Greg Kinnear as a gay artist. As Good As It Gets is one of few films to win both the Best Actor and Best Actress Oscars. Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) is a misanthrope who works at home as a best-selling novelist in New York City. He has obsessive–compulsive disorder which, paired with his misanthropy, alienates nearly everyone with whom he interacts. He avoids stepping on sidewalk cracks while walking through the city due to a superstition of bad luck, and eats breakfast at the same table in the same restaurant every day using disposable plastic utensils he brings with him due to his pathological fear of germs. He takes an interest in his waitress, Carol Connelly (Helen Hunt), the only server at the restaurant who can tolerate his behavior with a refreshing confidence and warmth that butts up against Nicholson’s prickliness.
Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino; it is based on a story by Tarantino and Roger Avary. Starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles. The film’s title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue. The film is also self-referential from its opening moments, beginning with a title card that gives two dictionary definitions of “pulp”. Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations with eclectic dialogue revealing each character’s perspectives on several subjects, and the film features an ironic combination of humor and strong violence. Pulp Fiction won the Palme d’Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was a major critical and commercial success. It was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and won Best Original Screenplay. Pulp Fiction has been widely regarded as Tarantino’s masterpiece, with particular praise for its screenwriting.
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a 1997 American drama film, directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver, and Stellan Skarsgård. Written by Affleck and Damon, the film follows 20-year-old South Boston janitor Will Hunting, an unrecognized genius who, as part of a deferred prosecution agreement after assaulting a police officer, becomes a client of a therapist and studies advanced mathematics with a renowned professor. Through his therapy sessions, Will re-evaluates his relationships with his best friend, his girlfriend, and himself, facing the significant task of confronting his past and thinking about his future. The film grossed over $225 million during its theatrical run, from a $10 million budget. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture, and won two: Best Supporting Actor for Williams and Best Original Screenplay for Affleck and Damon. While the film invaded the zeitgeist so fully that it’s now become a cultural punching bag of sorts, it remains a deeply felt, funny, and involving drama that more than deserved the acclaim it received.
If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, you have to know Netflix offers a 30-day trial to all new customers, so you can see for yourself whether you like its content without parting with any hard-earned cash. Before making that decision, though, it’s important to know exactly what you’ll get for your money, if you do decide to sign up.
As far as what you can watch on, there’s a Netflix app for practically every device you can think of, including smartphones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs, games consoles and other streaming media players. The only notable platform to block Netflix is one of its main rivals, Now TV. So, if you want to be able to stream Now TV and Netflix on the same device, avoid Now TV’s own Smart TV Stick and opt for a Chromecast or a Roku streamer instead.
A side effect to Netflix’s massive popularity is that it overwhelms Internet providers’ networks – or so the ISPs claim. Some providers have even gone so far as to throttle, or slow down, their subscribers’ connection to Netflix. If you’re paying for a hyper-fast Internet connection and getting lousy video quality, this might be the cause. Also traffic jams are bound to happen, which slows things down during peak hours.
For those with limited access to data, Netflix allows you to download select titles for offline viewing. The Downloads tab shows everything you have designated for offline viewing, but there’s no search function here. Netflix allows for full HD downloads, but there are some limitations to this feature. For example, some titles expire after 48 hours and others can only be downloaded a certain number of times. Netflix confirmed that some restrictions apply to downloadable per licensing deals.
